Benedict Cumberbatch will make his first appearance as Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in November’s Doctor Strange, but Doctor Strange’s appointment book already seems to be filling up.
Rumors have already been circulating suggesting that Doctor Strange will make an appearance in Thor: Ragnarok. That would be Doctor Strange’s first Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover appearance. Cumberbatch seemingly just confirmed his second.
Speaking Empire Magazine about Doctor Strange’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Cumberbatch noted the “logistical challenge of aligning his schedule with those of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany”.
Downey, Evans, Olsen, and Bettany are, of course, the actors who respectively play Iron Man, Captain America, Scarlet Witch, and Vision of the Avengers. The next film on Marvel’s schedule that it would make sense for all four of those characters to appear in Avengers: Infinity War.
“To get us all together will be quite something,” Cumberbatch continued. “That’s why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter. So watch this space to see how that unfolds.”
It isn’t surprising for Doctor Strange to show up in Avengers: Infinity Stone. Doctor Strange’s Eye of Agamotto is one of the Infinity Stones that Thanos has been questing after. If Avengers: Infinity War is supposed to be the film that begins bringing that story to its climax, then it makes sense for Doctor Strange to find himself caught up in it.
